Dr. Carlijn Hoedemaker’s dedication to helping people as a medical doctor runs in the blood. At an early age, she already knew she wanted to follow the same path as her great-grandfather and grandfather who were both general practitioners.

Dr. Carlijn (Car-Leen) acquired her medical degree in her home country, The Netherlands, from Utrecht University in 2006. After completing her degree, she worked in Psychiatry, Emergency Medicine and Geriatric medicine. Spending her internships in the hospital, she realized she was being pulled to all fields of Medicine. Passionate about working with all age groups treating both acute and chronic illnesses, Dr. Carlijn (Car-Leen) chose to work in General Practice where she can focus on a wide variety of medical conditions.

After graduating as a General Practitioner in 2010 she worked in General Practice and after-hours clinics in the Netherlands for three and a half years. In 2013, Dr. Carlijn (Car-Leen) moved to New Zealand to practice at Drury Surgery in Drury, about 35 kilometres south of Auckland. Drury is a growing community where town meets country. While in New Zealand, she worked a bit further away from the major hospitals that led her to learn more about managing people within Primary Practice. Dr. Carlijn (Car-Leen) was awarded the Fellowship of the RNZCGP in Auckland, New Zealand.

In addition to her clinical interests, Dr. Carlijn (Car-Leen) is particularly interested in preventing and managing chronic medical conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) and cardiovascular conditions.

Bringing with her over 15 years of experience, Dr. Carlijn (Car-Leen) is now based in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, since October 2020.
