There are many factors contributing to one\u2019s blood pressure and they can generally be divided into modifiable and non-modifiable risk factors.<\/p>\n<h4>Non-modifiable<\/h4>\n<ol>\n<li>Genetics: Family history of hypertension can increase the risk of developing the condition.<\/li>\n<li>Age: As individuals get older, the risk of hypertension increases.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h4>Modifiable<\/h4>\n<ol>\n<li>Lifestyle factors:\n<ul>\n<li>Unhealthy diet (high in salt and saturated fats)<\/li>\n<li>Lack of physical activity<\/li>\n<li>Excessive alcohol consumption<\/li>\n<li>Smoking<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Obesity: Being overweight or obese can elevate blood pressure<\/li>\n<li>Stress<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3>What do the two values on the blood pressure reading mean?<\/h3>\n<p>Blood pressure readings consist of two values: systolic pressure and diastolic pressure, which are measured in millimetres of mercury (mmHg).
