For example, toddlers are often very distressed about being away from their parents, even if they are safe and cared for. It is normal for children to feel fear and worry from time to time, but persistent or extreme forms of fear and sadness could be due to anxiety or depression. \u2022 Bipolar disorder<\/strong><\/p>\n Bipolar disorder is a mental health condition that causes extreme mood swings \u2013 emotional highs (mania or hypomania) and lows (depression).
